About Me
I'm Jane
I've been sewing all my life, the first think I remember making was an egg cosy when I was five and then an embroidered, gingham envelope to save my work in.
I made doll's clothes I learned quickly that drawing round something didn't make clothes big enough.
When I was ten year old I made the first dress for me that I remember, a simple, darted, shift dress with faced armholes and neck and with a back zip.
I stretched the fabric as I fitted the zip and learnt not to do that again.
The oldest of five children, my father went to teacher training college just as I got to the age where I was interested in fashion. Following fashion meant buying remnants and making my own clothes. Patterns never fit on the remnants I had so I learnt how to alter my patterns to make them fit both me and the available material.
I learnt how to create historically correct clothing and discovered that although there are hundreds of excellent costumiers, there are few people offering a comprehensive range of the corresponding underwear. Last year, I added custom bra making to my underwear repertoire.
