Make a face mask

A quick picture tutorial for a simple, cotton facemask.

Washable, re-usable. Advice from the French government is to wash at 60°C or to boil wash
It's not to any norms but it will make it harder to touch your mouth and nose.
It will slow down any coughs and sneezes.
The Dutch government has suggested a mask with a pocket  for a disposable paper layer for additional filtration. Lots of pictures make it easy enough to follow.

Cut a rectangle, 8" x 15" (20cm x 38cm) and two lengths of 1/4" (6mm) elastic 8" (20cm) long

Pin elastic to the top of the mask (middle of the long side) and bottom

Sew, working a backstitch over the elastic first side,
work a backstitch over the elastic at the bottom.

Turn and sewthe bottom, turn and sew the first part of the last side,
working a backstitch over the elastic leave an opening to turn

finish the second side and work a backstitch over the elastic.

opening in the side seam, then turn the right way out

tuck the raw edges to the inside

mark the points for the pleats 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 at the sides

pin in place

sew pleats in place, both sides using a backstitch over the elastic

don't forget to backstich over the elastic.

et voila, c'est finis!

and with saftey in mind, as I plan to make several from this fabric, I have marked the one I used for this tutorial and modelling with my name.
